A two-act musical based on the hit movie. Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star, decides to earn an extra bit of cash by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. Can he get them to the Battle of the Bands before the parents and the school find out?

This five-time Tony Award-winning musical is a high-energy thrill ride, and a one-of-a-kind experience.

And Then There Were None

This thriller is one of Christie's darkest tales, and a masterpiece of dramatic construction. Its growing sense of dread and unfaltering tension will keep you guessing to the very end.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Nov. 26 to Dec. 22, 2019
An Emerging Artist Series production

A musical
Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Lyrics by Tim Rice

The Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable!

Celebrating its 18th year on the Weathervane Playhouse stage in 2019, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, his 11 brothers and the coat of many colors. It’s an irresistible family musical about the trials and triumphs of Joseph, Israel’s favorite son.

Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock 'n' roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless.

Following a year of record attendance with audiences both new and returning to this Weathervane Playhouse favorite, it is no exaggeration to say that Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is an Akron holiday-season tradition!

Margaret Atwood's Alias Grace
**NE Ohio Regional Premier**
Jan. 16 to Feb. 2, 2020
A Mainstage Production

A drama by Margaret Atwood; adapted for the stage by Jennifer Blackmer

From the author of The Handmaid's Tale, this spine-tingling mystery of the mind will chill you to the bone. Margaret Atwood's Alias Grace tells the true story of an Irish immigrant who worked as a household maid in the mid-1800s and was later convicted of a murder of which she swears to have no memory. Through discussions with an American psychologist, Grace begins to unlock her memories, setting both on a terrifying path of shocking revelations.

Although set in another era, this story speaks specifically and almost uncannily to today's audiences, addressing issues such as the reception of immigrants, the predatory nature of the powerful, and how others in power conspire to keep their crimes hidden.

Feb. 20 to March 8, 2020
A Mainstage production

A musical
Music and lyrics by David Bryan
Book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro

1950's Memphis, TN: Inspired by actual events, this story follows a white radio DJ who wants to change the world and a black club singer who is ready for her big break. Come along on their incredible journey  to the ends of the air-waves filled with laughter, soaring emotion, and roof-raising rock 'n' roll. Winner of four 2010 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and two 2015 Olivier Awards.

Radium Girls
March 26 to April 5, 2020
An Emerging Artist Series production

A drama by D.W. Gregory

Exploiting something you don't fully understand to turn profits can sometimes have dire, deadly consequences. In 1926, luminous watches were the latest rage -- until the girls who painted them began to fall gravely ill. Inspired by the true story of a dial painter as she fights for her day in court, and written with warmth and humor, Radium Girls offers a wry, unflincing look at American obsessions with health, wealth, and the commercialization of science.

**NE Ohio Community Theatre Premiere**
May 9 to 26, 2020
A Mainstage production

This exciting additional to our season is coming our way following a six-year run on Broadway. We wish we could share the title of this winner of every major BEST MUSICAL award, including the Tony, Grammy and London's Olivier Award...but we can't. We can tell you, however, that it is based on a true story that struts its stuff with plenty of sparkle and heart!

June 4 to 28, 2020
A Mainstage production

A musical
Music by Tom Snow, Lyrics by Dean Pitchford
Based on the screenplay by Dean Pitchford

Moving in from Chicago, newcomer Ren McCormack is in shock when he discovers the small Midwestern town he now calls home has made dancing and rock music illegal. As he struggles to fit in, Ren faces an uphill climb to change things. With the help of his new friend, Willard Hewitt, and defiant teen Ariel Moore, he might loosen up this conservative town yet. He'll need all the help he can get as he battles with Ariel's influential father, Reverend Shaw Moore, for the town's very soul. Set to the rockin' rhythms of its Oscar- and Tony-nominated top 40 score (over 15 million copies sold), and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage, Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.
