About The Illusion Factory
The Illusion Factory is Akron's only professional touring theater company for young audiences. The company was founded in Akron in 1991 by Barbara Ballance, who brought 18 years’ worth of experience in children’s theater (beginning in 1973 with creation of the Akron Children’s Theatre).
Guided by Ballance's vision of quality theater for children, The Illusion Factory was formed specifically as a touring company, and was designed to bring the best of theater directly into the area’s schools. A quarter of a century after its founding, The Illusion Factory continues to successfully meet its stated mission: "To inspire children’s creativity through touring excellent theater performances and residency workshops to as many school children as possible throughout the state of Ohio, as well as to conduct Saturday classes and a summer theater camp."
The Illusion Factory's performances, residency days, and theater school classes reach over 50,000 children each year. Because The Illusion Factory is in our Ohio schools, the company takes pride in the way it is able to reach all of the state’s large and diverse student population — rural and urban schools, public and private institutions, minority and disabled students.
