What are you doing New Year's Eve?
Come to downtown Akron's First Night and see Weathervane at the Shoppes at Akron Centre!
► New Year's Eve: Monday, Dec. 31, 2012
at the Shoppes at Akron Centre (76 S. Main St. in downtown Akron)
from 8:15 to 9 p.m.
First Night Akron is a major visual and performing-arts festival created by and for the community to welcome the New Year in Downtown Akron and is held on Dec. 31 each year. Spread out among 10 downtown venues, First Night Akron is now in its 17th year!
If you are planning to go to this year's First Night Akron, make plans to stop in at the Shoppes at Akron Centre, 76 S. Main St., just across the street from the downtown library, to see a family-friendly show written, produced and presented by your Weathervane friends!
For this year's First Night performance, Weathervane's contribution is a set of four 10-minute interactive comedic plays under the banner title of I Wish written by Alan Scott Ferrall.
The performers featured in I Wish are Sarah Bailey, Marissa Montigney, Jamie Oriti, Gabriel Riazi and Jackson Sturkey.
The first play is a poem set to music called "Once Upon a Time." The second is "New Year's Revolutions," about three children who stay up way too late on New Year's Eve. The third is "The Power of One," a primer on anti-bullying, and the fourth and final short play is "World Peas," which details a little girl's wish for the planet.
If you're planning to go to First Night Akron, you will need to get an admission button. First Night admission buttons help support the cost of the celebration and provide admission to all First Night venues on event night.
Buttons are available for purchase through Dec. 30 at such places as Acme Fresh Markets, Actors' Summit, the Akron Beacon Journal customer-service desk, participating branches of FirstMerit Bank, the Library Shop at downtown's Akron-Summit County Public Library, and the Stage Left Boutique at the Akron Civic Theatre. On the day of the event — Dec. 31 — buttons are available for purchase at just two places, the Library Shop and the Stage Left Boutique.
