The Evening's Honorary Chairpersons
Ms. Margaret J. Dietz was an instrumental part of Weathervane’s education division for many years. She was responsible for coordinating Youth Theater Workshop, Adult Workshop, Stage II and Play Selection Committee. Her four children were involved in various classes. This combined with her strong belief in the power of the “magic of make-believe” allowed for the creation of the John L. Dietz Theater, in memory of her youngest son. For the past 10 years, shows that previously might not have been produced locally were introduced in the Dietz Theater thanks to her continued support. Margaret was president of the Board of Trustees from 1982-1985. Along with James Kovack, she helped lead a successful campaign to make Weathervane accessible for people with disabilities, as well as installing restrooms on the first floor. She also is a wealth of knowledge of Weathervane’s past, but never wants to hear that something cannot be changed or grow.
Ms. Helen D. Fleming has been involved at Weathervane for over 50 years. She served in many endeavors over those years including President of The Women’s Board, head of the Youth Theater Workshops, coordinator of the Christmas Show and recruitment of volunteers. She pioneered a play reading group which outgrew her living room to become Weathervane’s Stage II and served on the Board of Trustees. Helen did everything from selling season tickets to serving as Marketing Manager for the playhouse. Helen’s talents onstage include performances on the mainstage in: Guys and Dolls, Summer and Smoke, The Male Animal, and Snow White as well as performing on Stage II in Gideon. Helen and her family were instrumental in the establishment of Weathervane in the Merriman Valley and husband Cue left an indelible mark on Weathervane. Helen’s continued support and attendance at the theater fills all of our days with the stories and memories of our history and an eye to our future.
