Spend your Summer at Weathervane Playhouse! 

Our Summer Theatre Academy 2019 is full of exciting themes and learning opportunities for students ages 3-17.

Each camp will have a snack/lunch break, students can bring a packed lunch with them each day. 

On the last day of camp, students will do a final performance for family and friends. 

Interested in beforecare or aftercare? Both are offered up to an hour before or after each camp. Cost is $25.00 per hour. Please email Education Director, Lauren Sprowls at lsprowls@weathervaneplayhouse.com or call 330-836-2626 x35 to schedule.

Partial-scholarship support is available for classes at Weathervane due to the generous support from the community. To apply, please fill out a scholarship application or call  (330) 836-2626 to request an application (via the mail). Ages 3-6 
June 3-June 7

                         Join us for this fulfilled summer camp with our partner Storytime with Hassan! Students will study a variety of topics                                 such as fitness, making healthy choices, being a good friend and more through interactive classic stories. Each day will                               be filled with movement, dramatic play, and hands-on activities. Students will present all that they learned on the final                               day of camp.  

 

To The Moon
Ages 5-8
June 10-June 21

Three, two, one, blast off! Travel to the moon and explore the great unknown in this hands-on creative camp.                                               Students will spend their days using their imaginations to bring stories to life and produce their own play to                                                 share on the last day of camp. Join us to learn all about what theatre has to offer! 
 
Ages 10-17

Explore the world of heroic fantasy through the popular game Dungeons and Dragons. In this camp, students will take part in the game and use its theme and ideas to ignite their imaginations and create stories and characters through improvisation and acting exercises. Explore elements of theatre while taking a journey for treasure or battle deadly foes. Students will perform on the last day of camp. 
 
Ages 8-14

                         It’s back! The Force is strong with you… Join our Jedi Master to train and go from Padawan to Jedi. You will go through                           a series of activities, learn basic stage combat, and create an action story to present on the final day of camp.
                         Students will be provided with robes and lightsabers to use for the week…everything a Jedi needs! 
 
Juke Box Musicals
Ages 9-12
June 17-21
10:00-2:00 p.m.

Get ready to sing, dance, and act in this one week summer camp! Students will work with an instructor and live accompanist to create characters, perform choreography, and sing some of our favorite songs from classic Juke Box musicals. Students present their performance on the last day of camp. Don’t get All Shook Up, you will be a Dancing Queen by the end of the week! 
 
Rhythms of Robbins 
Ages 8-14
June 24-28
                           10:00-2:00 p.m.

                           Explore the style of the iconic Jerome Robbins. Known for his work on West Side Story, Peter Pan, and On the Town to                             name a few. Get ready to move and learn a mixture of dance styles and choreography! Dancers will show off their new                               skills on the final day of camp. Jazz or Ballet shoes are required. 
 
Songs that make you “Smile” 
Ages 5-8

Put on a Happy Face in this fulfilled Musical Theatre Camp! Students will work on their skills in music, dance, and acting through multiple songs that make us laugh and smile and present their final performance on the last day. Forget your troubles and get happy learning something new this summer! 
 
 
Ages 13 – 17

Performance Track, is for students who are ready to put on a show! This fast-paced workshop produces a full production in 2 weeks. Students will work with a professional director and technical staff to receive training and guidance to bring their masterpiece to life.
 
Ages 10 – 17
July 8 – 12, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
July 15 – 19, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Tech Track, is for students who want to study the visual elements of theatre from costumes, props, lighting and set design. They work alongside our technical staff and the director to bring the visual elements of the show to life.
 
 
Time Machine
Ages 8-11

Travel back in time this summer in this interactive theatre camp. Performers will be encouraged to create a plot and characters while also increasing their confidence as a performer and present what they have created on the final day of camp. Is it 2019 or 1987? Let’s find out what life was like through-out history. 
 
Ages 11-17
July 22-July 26

Dive into the works of William Shakespeare in this one week camp! Students will learn how to approach these classical pieces through script analysis, character development, and acting technique while also exploring the dialect and language. “Be not afraid of greatness” and challenge yourself an actor this summer. Students will perform what they learned on the final day of camp. 
 
Ages 3-6

Learning through rhythm and music! Join us as we race up the coconut tree, sing, dance, and use musical instruments to make this classic story come to life.  Students will share what they learned on the last day of camp. Will all the letters fit up the tree..Oh No! 
 
 
 
Greatest Show on Earth 
Ages 12-17

Learn to joggle all of the skills to become a triple threat! Students will learn pieces of music and choreography from popular circus themed productions to become a great showman. Our performers will show off their skills with a final performance on the last day. 
 
Around the World
Ages 5-8

Travel around the world through movement! Join us as we explore different dance styles from various cultures and use their movement to learn and create new and diverse characters. Students will show what they learned on the last day of class. Do the Irish jig or Hulu your way to a tropical island. 
 
Singin’ in the Rain
Ages 9-15

Grab your tap shoes and join us for Broadway Boot Camp in the style of Singin’ in the Rain. Students will learn the basics tap technique to connect with the style and musical score of this popular musical. Dancers will show off their new skills on the final day of camp. Tap shoes required.

What if you could talk to animals? Or become a Chimpanzee? Find out in Imagine THAT! as we create our own Weathervane Zoo where we learn about different animals and create our own animal characters. Roar like a tiger, fly like a bird, run like a cheetah. Explore, create, and have fun through dramatic play!
