"The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" — Dec. 3 to 19, 2015

A musical
Music and lyrics by William Finn
Book by Rachel Sheinkin
Conceived by Rebecca Feldman
Additional Material by Jay Reiss
Directed by Melanie Y.C. Pepe
Musical Director John Ebner

Six mid-pubescent kids vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime! While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home life, these eclectic tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words hoping to never hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box! Winner of numerous awards — including the Tony Award for best book of a musical — this giddy and charming musical celebrates the trials and tribulations of adolescence while reminding us that, deep down inside, everyone is a winner!

Audience Advisory: This show, while being a light-hearted look back at adolescent angst, is neverthless best enjoyed by audiences at least 13 years of age or older due to mild, suggestive language and themes related to the triumphs and tragedies of puberty!
