THEATRE

 

Imagine THAT! Harold and the Purple Crayon 

Ages 3 - 5
Saturday 9:30 - 10:15 a.m.

Students will color their own world using dramatic play, storytelling and imagination while exploring the story of "Harold and the Purple Crayon."  This class will foster cognitive development while they bring elements of the story to life through fun and interactive activities. Sing, dance, draw, and walk in the moonlight of creativity at Weathervane! 
 
 
Ages 5 - 8
Saturday 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. 
Tuition: $175.00
 
Bring stories to life and learn theatre skills through creative play! Students will study story structure, explore character development, and work as a group while gaining self-confidence through the popular fairytale Little Red Riding Hood. This introductory class is a great place to learn the basics of theatre and performing on the stage. This class is meant to be repeated.
 
 
 
Ages 8 - 11
Saturday 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. 
Tuition: $175.00
 
Empower and challenge your child to take the stage. This class is designed for beginning actors, teaching them how to create the actor’s tool box. Students will learn skills in movement, vocal color, script interpretation, and improvisation. Watch as your student gains confidence, self-esteem and a new creative outlet!
 
 
Ages 11 - 15
Saturday 11:30 - 12:45 p.m.

This class is designed as an introduction to theatre. Students will tackle improvisation and scripted work in this fun and interactive class. The instructor will lead the students to discover how to portray a character with voice and movement while learning how to interpret the playwright’s textual clues. Join in the fun and learn through theatrical play!
 
 
 Ages 8 - 11

Explore the elements of improvisation and experience the power of play with our improv workshop.  Students will focus on various games and exercises that encourage trust, communication, active listening, character development and team work.  Join us on the last day as our class puts on a show.  You never know what will happen...that's why it's improv!
 
 
 Ages 11 - 17 
Saturday 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

Continue to learn, grow, and build upon your Improv Skills in this next level class! Students will continue to explore the building blocks of improv, making clear character choices, and working as an ensemble to development strong story lines. 
 
 
 Ages 7 - 15
Saturday 11:00 - 12:15 p.m. 
Tuition: $180.00
 
This class is designed for the child who has attended The Introduction to Acting Class and was recommended to continue to the Intermediate Acting Class, or has equivalent experience on stage. Students will be encouraged to expand on their performance skills to create characters with depth and motivation, work as an ensemble and individually, and use their basic knowledge of theatre vocabulary to interpret the essentials of a scene.  Each student will leave the class with new skills and ready to take on their next performance!
 
 

 

MUSIC

Develop skills in singing, dancing, and acting in Musical Theatre, Act One! Sing and dance your way through some Broadway standards. Students will work on musical theatre skills through group singing, creative and choreographed movement, rhythm notation, and sight reading. Our Musical Theatre, Act One class takes our entire core curriculum and puts it to music with an experienced Instructor and Accompanist. Move over Kristin Chenoweth and Matthew Morrison, here comes the next Broadway star!
 
 

Ages 8 - 12
Saturday 11:30 - 12:30 p.m.

Sing, dance and perform in Musical Theatre, Act Two. Designed with the same objectives as musical Theatre, Act One, but for older students, this class challenges experienced students through more complex choreography and solo singing. Learn and explore in this class designed to inspire young actors taught by an experienced Instructor and Accompanist. You will be flapping, pirouetting and box-stepping your way onto center stage!

Monday 5:00 - 5:45 p.m. (September 17 to November 19)

Back again this Fall! Fun while learning is the main objective. Students explore the basic concepts of pitch and rhythm using games, eurhythmics, and tone poems to introduce the basics of reading music and ear training. Each session ends with a class demonstration, including a song with choreographed movements. Join us as we hop, skip, and jumpstart our way into the world of music.
 
 

DANCE

It’s back for Fall! Our tiny dancers will explore and express themselves through this high energy creative movement class! Students will learn musicality, basic movement techniques, and body awareness while getting to show off their personality and style. Join us and let’s get moving! 
 
 
Ages 5 - 8
Saturday 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Tuition: $175.00
 
Learn the basics of Tap and Jazz techniques, vocabulary, and styles used in your favorite Broadway shows in this beginner level class. This class will allow each student to grow as a dancer and bring them one step and tap forward to becoming a triple threat. Jazz and Tap shoes required.
 
 
Ages 7 - 15
Saturday 9:00 - 10:00 a.m.

Weathervane’s Broadway dance classes are designed with the actor in mind. Students can continue to build on their dance technique, performance skills, and knowledge of different dance styles outside the traditraditional studio setting. In this class, students will focus on Jazz and Tap techniques and styles used in popular Broadway shows. From Fosse to Tune, we are going to move! Jazz and Tap shoes required.
 
 

DESIGN

Ages 10-17
Saturday 11:30-12:30 p.m.
Tuition: $175.00
 
Explore the art of theatre through costume design! Students will work with Weathervane’s resident costume designer to explore design techniques, theory, and learn about the building blocks of costume design. 
 
 
Saturday, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Tuition is FREE if your child is registered for a Fall class
 
Become the ultimate stage parent! Work with Weathervane's Resident Costume Designer to learn the basics of sewing and hemming by hand and machine, putting on buttons, and basic alterations while your child is in class! No experience necessary, just a willingness to learn.
 

BLACK BOX SERIES

Black Box Series Classes are for students who are ready to be challenged!
These classes focus on specific curriculum and elements of the performing arts.
 
Student requirements: 
Must be age 10 or older 
Must have taken at least Weathervane classes

DIRECTING PROJECT 
Saturday 9:00-10:30 a.m. 
Tuition: $185.00
 
Learn what it’s like to be running the show! In this class, students will learn the principles and practices of being a stage director. Students will cast, stage, rehearse, and present short scenes with the assistance of an experienced instructor.  Students from the class will also gain the benefit of acting in each other’s scenes.  Class is limited to the first 10 students. 
 

 
TRIPLE THREAT
Saturday 11:30-1:00 p.m. 
Tuition: $185.00
 
Become a Triple Threat in this black box class focused on scene study to examine the music, acting, and dance components of different musical productions. Students be able to hone in on each of their musical theatre skills to become a well-rounded musical theatre performer. Class is limited to the first 10 students. 
 
 

 
PLAYWRITING
Saturday 12:15-1:45 p.m. 
Tuition: $185.00
 
Take what’s on the page and bring it to the stage! Students will discuss plot structure, creating characters, thoughts, themes, and ideas in this hands on playing writing class. Bring your ideas and get creative in this writing workshop! Class is limited to the first 10 students.
 
 

 
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT  
Saturday 10:30-12:00 p.m. 
Tuition: $185.00
 
What does it take to create a character? Students will work with their instructor to examine the many elements that bring a character to life. Students will present their characters through monologue work on the last day of class. Use your imagination and creativity while becoming a stronger performer.
